ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Syria have agreed to expand bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, investment and other areas of mutual interest, during high-level talks in Islamabad.
The understanding was reached during delegation-level discussions led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani. Both sides reaffirmed the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and Syria and expressed their commitment to further strengthening ties.
The two foreign ministers also discussed key regional and international developments, including the situations in Palestine, the Golan Heights, Afghanistan, South Asia and the wider Middle East. Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
The Syrian foreign minister welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, including its efforts to help de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran. Both sides agreed to maintain close engagement for peace, stability and prosperity.
Earlier, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, accompanied by a high-level delegation, held talks with Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan at the Ministry of Commerce.
The two sides agreed to further enhance trade, investment and economic cooperation. Jam Kamal Khan highlighted Pakistan’s economic and export potential and identified opportunities for joint cooperation in textiles, pharmaceuticals, leather, sports goods, information technology and agricultural products.
He also expressed solidarity with the Syrian people and conveyed Pakistan’s best wishes for Syria’s peace, stability and reconstruction.
