Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Announcement to Approach the Supreme Court for Elections within 90 Days

Islamabad: Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has announced to approach the Supreme Court within 90 days to hold elections and against the refusal to provide a level playing field.

During a press conference in Islamabad, Shah Mahmood Qureshi stated that pressure is being exerted on PTI workers. Since last night, Osman Dar, his family, and elderly mother were subjected to unwarranted treatment. Osman Dar’s wife and children were made to stand on the road at 2 AM, and his business has been forced to shut down. This has affected around 2,500 people associated with his business. I condemn this action.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi mentioned that the incidents involving Osman Dar and his family are condemnable. Why is violence being used? The Prime Minister had promised transparent elections. Can transparent elections be held in such an environment? Chief Justice of Pakistan should take notice. I demand that if there is no level playing field, the Election Commission should take action.

He said, “It is incorrect to assume that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is facing internal turmoil as a party. There can be no alternative to the chairman of our party. The PTI core committee is working in challenging circumstances.” The general elections have a 90-day restriction according to the Constitution of Pakistan. PTI will approach the Supreme Court against any delay in elections. Our legal team is preparing a petition, and Advocate Ali Zafar and Suleman Akram Raja are part of the team.

The PTI leader stated that it was not appropriate to include two caretaker prime ministers in the Joint Beneficial Council meeting. The lawyers’ fraternity is also in agreement on elections within ninety days. Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Siraj-ul-Haq has also commented on this matter. There is also a contradiction in the Pakistan Peoples Party’s stance. Now, after the inclusion of the Pakistan Peoples Party in the Joint Beneficial Council meeting, their leaders are discussing elections within ninety days.

He said that the PPP made a major mistake in history. The PPP has caused the country to face a constitutional crisis. Senate elections and the election of the President of the country will also be affected due to election delays. Delay tactics were used in previous elections as well. The caretaker government cannot express non-cooperation with the Constitution.

When asked if PTI could form an alliance with Pakistan Peoples Party in the upcoming general elections, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that we will take the matter to the Coordination Committee for consultation with the Pakistan Peoples Party in the next ninety days. There is no hesitation in consulting other political parties for the upcoming elections.

Are you out of jail under any deal? On this question, he said that I don’t attach importance to these allegations, so I won’t respond.

Dareen Athna, Shah Mahmood Qureshi confirmed the meeting with the Australian High Commissioner and said that the Australian High Commissioner invited us for breakfast, and we went there. At that time, apart from the American Ambassador, ambassadors of other important countries were also present. We presented our stance on the recent incidents of elections and terrorism. He further mentioned that no discussion took place in this meeting regarding the release of the PTI Chairman and Saifur.
