MOSCOW: Russia has acknowledged and welcomed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating communication between the United States and Iran, describing Islamabad’s role as constructive amid ongoing regional tensions.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Moscow values Pakistan’s contribution in helping create a conducive environment for dialogue between Washington and Tehran. “We do appreciate the role of Pakistan in creating the atmosphere and environment for those negotiations,” he noted, adding that such efforts could support broader diplomatic progress.
He also expressed cautious optimism that continued talks may yield positive outcomes, particularly as efforts to maintain a fragile ceasefire remain underway.
According to reports, Pakistan recently hosted high-level US–Iran discussions in Islamabad, which brought senior officials from both sides together for extended negotiations aimed at reducing tensions and exploring areas of possible agreement, including Iran’s nuclear programme and maritime security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz.
The meetings were reportedly facilitated with support from Pakistan’s leadership, reflecting Islamabad’s attempt to position itself as a neutral mediator in regional disputes.
Senior Pakistani military leadership, including Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, is said to have played a key role in maintaining communication channels with both sides, including visits and backchannel contacts aimed at sustaining diplomatic momentum.
While no final breakthrough has been confirmed, officials suggest the talks helped narrow differences on several contentious issues and laid the groundwork for future engagement.
