Pakistan, Uzbekistan Agree To Enhance Cooperation

Islamabad (November 01, 2018): Pakistan and Uzbekistan have expressed the resolve to further enhance bilateral cooperation to promote peace and stability in the region.

This was expressed during a joint news conference by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his Uzbek counterpart Abdulaziz Kamilov in Islamabad on Thursday.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said both countries have common views on seeking a political settlement in Afghanistan as there is no military solution to the Afghan conflict.

He said Pakistan is ready to promote connectivity in the region for the benefit of our people.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said there are vast opportunities of boosting bilateral cooperation in trade, tourism, and security fields.Abdulaziz Kamilov acknowledged Pakistan’s vital role in fight against terrorism and its efforts to bring peace and stability to the region. He said we have common approach to encourage the peace process in Afghanistan, combat terrorism and other challenges.

He said we have held very productive talks with Pakistani side on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of transport, road communication, trade, economy and security.

Earlier, Uzbekistan Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and Shah Mehmood Qureshi held delegation-level talks after he arrived in Islamabad today for a one-day visit.

According to the foreign office spokesperson, “Pakistan and Uzbekistan held delegation-level talks at MOFA. Uzbek delegation was led by Uzbek FM while Pakistani delegation was led by FM Qureshi.”

Further, Kamilov is expected to call on Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Pakistan and Uzbekistan enjoy a close and cordial relationship founded on mutual trust and understanding and augmented by strong cultural and religious affinities.

The Uzbek Foreign Minister invited Shah Mehmood Qureshi to visit Uzbekistan at a convenient date and thanked him for according warm hospitality to him and his delegation.

The Uzbek Foreign Minister will also call on Prime Minister Imran Khan.

A day earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif Khonsari met with PM Imran and FM Qureshi to discuss relations between the two countries and matters of mutual interest.
