LAHORE: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan has said Parliament is the appropriate forum to debate the proposal for creating new administrative units in the country.
Speaking to journalists in Lahore, he said any decision on holding a referendum regarding the formation of new provinces would rest with a joint sitting of Parliament rather than the government.
Rana Sanaullah maintained that peaceful political demonstrations were a constitutional right of every citizen. However, he warned that protests involving violence, vandalism or damage to public and private property would not be tolerated.
He said the government would respect the right to peaceful dissent while taking action against those who resorted to violence or disruptive activities.
