Passenger, Goods trains derail in separate incidents in Jhelum, Liaquatpur

JHELUM/LIAQUATPUR: A passenger train and a goods train derailed in two separate incidents in Jhelum and Liaquatpur on Thursday, though no casualties or injuries were reported.

In the first incident, Railcar No. 106, travelling from Rawalpindi to Lahore, derailed near Kantrila Gate in Jhelum.

Railway sources said the accident occurred after the train failed to stop at a crossing near Kala Gujran, causing the engine and three coaches to leave the tracks.

Officials said the main railway line remained operational as the derailed coaches were on the crossing track. Railway technical teams were deployed to repair the damaged track and restore the affected coaches.

Passengers, however, did not wait for alternative train arrangements and left the site using private transport to continue their journeys.

In a separate incident, 11 coaches of a goods train derailed near Feroza railway station in Liaquatpur.

Railway officials reached the scene and diverted trains travelling on the up track to the down track to maintain rail operations.

Authorities said the accident occurred after the train overshot when the track could not be changed in time. A rescue train was dispatched from Samasatta, while another relief train was sent from Rohri to assist with restoration work.

No loss of life or injuries were reported in either incident.
