Veteran journalist Arshad Zuberi Passes away

KARACHI: Renowned journalist Arshad Zuberi passed away in Karachi after a prolonged illness at the age of 72 on Sunday, his family said.

Arshad Zuberi remarkable journey began with academic excellence, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the United States in 1973. A year later, he joined the Business Recorder Group’s APEX PRINTRY as Technical Director, where he was instrumental in revolutionizing security printing, particularly for bank documents.

In 1976, Zuberi established a section for manufacturing continuous business form stationery, laying the groundwork for innovation in printing. His visionary leadership elevated him to the role of printer and publisher of the Daily Business Recorder in 1981. By 1983, he spearheaded a groundbreaking transformation, modernizing the publication’s news-setting processes by transitioning from hot metal to cold-set computerized film setting technology, a monumental step forward for the industry.

In 1985, Zuberi was promoted to Deputy Chief Executive of the Business Recorder Group, taking charge of administration, accounts, and advertising. His strategic acumen and dedication to excellence solidified his reputation as a leader who could seamlessly integrate business and journalism.

Zuberi’s influence extended beyond his organization. He served multiple terms as Secretary General of the All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS), where he streamlined operations and established the APNS as an efficient clearinghouse for newspaper advertising. Moreover, as a founding member and the first Secretary General of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), he played a pivotal role in uniting television and radio broadcasters under a common platform to advocate for the industry’s growth and interests.

Beyond media, Zuberi contributed to national policymaking as a member of the Tax Reform Coordination of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) from 2010 to 2013, providing valuable insights to streamline taxation systems.

Arshad Zuberi’s legacy is one of innovation, leadership, and a relentless commitment to progress. His contributions continue to inspire professionals in journalism, printing, and beyond, leaving an indelible mark on Pakistan’s media and industrial sectors.

The funeral prayer for Zuberi will be held on Monday at 1:30pm at the Noor-e-Salam Mosque in Zamzama Park, Defence
