RAWALPINDI: The ongoing investigation into the May 09 cases has hit a procedural snag as the PTI founder, currently in Adiala Jail, has twice refused to participate in a series of scheduled investigative tests.
A 13-member police investigation team, led by Deputy Superintendent Javed Asif, arrived at the jail for the third consecutive day to conduct polygraph, photograph, and voice matching tests as part of the probe.
Despite the team’s efforts, the PTI founder has submitted a written statement declining to undergo the examinations.
DSP Javed Asif expressed concern over the refusal, stating, “If the accused does not take the tests, how can the investigation be completed?” He emphasized that these tests are crucial for verifying the accuracy of evidence collected so far.
The investigation aims to scrutinize 11 cases in Lahore linked to the May incident. The team comprises inspectors Muhammad Alam, Mumtaz Hussain Tazadq Hussain, Rana Muhammad Arham, Zaid Sulaim, Muhammad Fayyaz, Muhammad Naveed, Rana Muhammad Akmal, and Muhammad Sial Sindhu. Technical experts Aabid Ayoub, Waqas Khalid Qureshi, and Usman Ahmed Khalid are assisting with forensic analysis.
The authorities have underscored that without completing these tests, the integrity of the investigation may be compromised, raising questions about the next steps in proceedings. The PTI founder’s refusal highlights the procedural challenges faced by law enforcement in progressing with the case.
