PPP raises allegations of interference in G-Baltistan elections

G.BALTISTAN: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has voiced serious concerns over alleged meddling and irregularities ahead of the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan elections. The party questioned the deployment of Punjab Police forces in the region and criticized the involvement of federal and provincial ministers in election activities.

PPP spokesperson Nadeem Afzal Chan expressed disapproval of the presence of Punjab Police in Gilgit-Baltistan, emphasizing that such actions are unacceptable. “This is Gilgit-Baltistan. Punjabi conduct and interference will not be tolerated here,” he stated.

In addition, Shazia Marri, another PPP representative, highlighted ongoing complaints regarding the electoral process. She pointed out reports of administrative officer transfers in certain areas and anomalies in voter lists across various constituencies.

Marri also raised concerns about the active campaigning by federal ministers, suggesting that their participation compromises the fairness of the election process. She questioned the measures implemented by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to guarantee a neutral and transparent election.

Addressing the Chief Election Commissioner, she urged the ECP to promptly investigate the allegations of government interference and to ensure a level playing field for all political parties. “The will of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan must be upheld and protected at all costs,” she concluded.
