President Mamnoon meets Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping

TASHKENT: President Mamnoon Hussain met Chinese President Xi Jinping here at Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. The presidents of both the countries reiterated the resolve to continue joint efforts for regional security, prosperity, and world peace. They also agreed that Pakistan and China share same friends and the same enemies and the two countries will continue cooperating against terrorism, militancy, and separatists inclinations.

Pakistan and Chinese delegations were also present during the meeting in which Advisor Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, foreign secretary, and other high officials assisted the president while Chinese delegation comprised foreign minister, trade minister, and other high officials.

Chinese President Xi Jinping lauded Pakistan’s efforts for peace in the region specially in Afghanistan. He also congratulated his Pakistani counterpart for signing of Memorandum of Obligation to become SC worker and hope that Pakistan will play an active role for the development of the region. He also said that both the countries are celebrating 65 years of their friendship this year and in this regard mutual cooperation will further increase and high level contacts will also be established. Stressing on the early completion of infrastructure and energy projects he stressed bettering joint cooperation council.

President Mamnoon said that Pakistan condemns terrorism and to eliminate terrorism Operation Zarb-e-Azb continues successfully under which action has also been taken against Turkistan Islamic Movement. Enemies of China are our enemies and terrorists of Turkistan Islamic Movement would not be able to take refuge in Pakistan, he added. President Mamnoon thanked his Chinese counterpart for China’s condemnation of recent American drone attack.

He also thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for support over Pakistan’s inclusion in Nuclear Suppliers Group saying that China’s policy of indiscriminate inclusion in Nuclear Suppliers Group is based on principle. Like membership of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Pakistan and India should be made a member of Nuclear Suppliers Group simultaneously.
