ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan says the party’s planned march on October 4 remains on the agenda, while calling on political parties to take part in an All Parties Conference.
Speaking to reporters at Dahgal Checkpost, Gohar said he had invited PPP leaders from the joint opposition to the conference. The party would decide whether to attend after consulting its leadership, he added.
The proposed APC would discuss the political climate, security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and provincial issues. Gohar also raised concerns over the arrests of parliamentarians and urged political forces to agree on a way forward, protect provincial autonomy and reject unconstitutional measures.
He alleged that the federal government was interfering in KP affairs and said weakening the province’s powers could threaten the federation as a whole. He also questioned the prospect of Governor’s Rule or an emergency, saying terrorism should not be used to justify such steps. PTI, he said, supports action against terrorists and honours the sacrifices of security personnel and other victims.
Gohar said PTI had moved its September 27 protest call to October 4 and that demonstrators would not attack or storm any location. The party is seeking permission to hold political meetings and access to its founder, Imran Khan, for family members and lawyers, he said.
He added that KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi would remain in office as long as he retained Imran Khan’s confidence. Gohar also dismissed reports attributed to Noreen Niazi, saying the family had rejected them.
