Punjab launches ‘First-Ever’ mega film city in Lahore

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled plans for the province’s inaugural 50-acre Punjab Film City in Lahore, a project aimed at boosting local talent and establishing Pakistan as an international creative hotspot.

Sharing the news on X, the CM described the initiative as a pioneering venture in Punjab, conceptualized nearly two years ago and developed through extensive consultations with filmmakers, producers, and actors. The goal is to create a comprehensive, self-sufficient content creation ecosystem within Pakistan.

The proposed Film City will feature state-of-the-art studios and sound stages, cutting-edge visual effects (VFX) facilities, and advanced post-production labs. It will also include diverse backlot sets, a central water body, and a dedicated convention center designed to host global award ceremonies.

Additional features include integrated media trade hubs, a dedicated film and music academy, and specialized safety and emergency infrastructure. The complex will also boast a lively entertainment district to support Pakistan’s expanding entertainment industry.

Expressing her enthusiasm, CM Maryam stated that this project will nurture local talent, generate thousands of jobs, and elevate Pakistan’s status as a global leader in creative arts. She emphasized that the Film City will serve as a platform for young artists to realize their dreams and showcase Pakistan’s vibrant culture to the world.

Highlighting her broader vision, the CM said that Punjab aims to become a premier destination for technology, innovation, heritage, and culture, with the Film City representing a significant milestone in that journey.
