Sindh govt decides to continue petrol subsidy for motorcycle riders

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced that the province will maintain the petrol subsidy for motorcycle owners, providing ongoing relief to low-income commuters amid rising fuel prices

The decision comes as the current subsidy scheme was set to expire today. Instead of discontinuing it, the provincial administration has decided to extend the program, allowing thousands of motorcyclists across Sindh to benefit from reduced fuel costs for the time being.

The subsidy, valued at Rs2,000 per motorcycle, was initially introduced to counteract the escalating petrol prices, which have placed a significant financial burden on daily wage earners and lower-income individuals who depend heavily on motorcycles for their daily commute.

By extending this support, the government aims to mitigate the immediate economic strain caused by fuel inflation. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized that this move is part of a wider strategy to assist vulnerable populations during challenging economic times.

He noted that as long as fuel prices remain high, targeted measures like the subsidy will be essential to prevent further financial hardship for ordinary citizens. While this provides temporary relief, questions about the sustainability of such subsidies persist, given the ongoing fiscal constraints faced by provincial authorities.

For now, the extension serves as a crucial support measure for urban commuters, with petrol prices continuing to be a focal point in the government’s efforts to ease living costs for the lower-income segments of society.
