QUETTA: The Balochistan government has moved forward with plans to introduce artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled traffic signals in Quetta, aiming to offer a sustainable solution to the city’s increasing traffic congestion.
This initiative was discussed during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, where officials explored strategies for implementing an advanced traffic management system in the provincial capital, according to an official statement.
During the session, officials presented plans to deploy AI-based traffic signals designed to ease traffic buildup and enhance vehicle movement across Quetta. The chief minister emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among relevant authorities to ensure the successful, long-term deployment of this modern system.
Bugti highlighted that leveraging cutting-edge technology to streamline traffic flow would not only improve efficiency but also contribute to safer travel conditions for residents.
“The safety and convenience of our citizens are key priorities for the Balochistan government,” he stated. He further noted that modern technological solutions are integral to the province’s broader reform initiatives aimed at urban development.
The chief minister pointed out that AI-driven traffic management could significantly cut down travel times, optimize traffic movement, and boost overall transportation services. Additionally, he stressed that such systems would foster better road discipline, increase transparency, and enable more effective traffic oversight.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Bugti pledged to equip Quetta with state-of-the-art urban infrastructure, creating a secure, organized, and user-friendly transportation network for the public.
In related developments, authorities in Islamabad are also examining plans to deploy AI-powered traffic signals under the Safe City Expansion Project, with the goal of reducing congestion and improving vehicular flow in the federal capital.
A senior official revealed that representatives from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Safe City technical team participated in discussions, focusing on the technical and operational details necessary for the project’s successful implementation.
