ISLAMABAD: In a statement in Rawalpindi today, Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi emphasized the government’s dedication to upgrading the nation’s railway network through comprehensive modernization initiatives. He revealed that by June next year, all trains, including the Tezgam and Karachi Express, will undergo refurbishment to enhance passenger comfort and service quality.
Abbasi also announced that forty-three locomotives are currently being designated for freight services to stimulate economic growth. Additionally, sixteen new power coaches are scheduled to join the railway fleet by the end of this year, and the remaining ninety coaches will be overhauled with high priority to improve operational efficiency.
Focusing on employee facilities, the minister highlighted the development of modern guard and driver rooms at Rawalpindi Railway Station, built to meet international standards. He assured that similar facilities will soon be introduced at other key stations, such as Lahore, Karachi, Rohri, and Khanewal, to improve working conditions for railway staff.
Furthermore, the entrance area of Rawalpindi Railway Station is being renovated to resemble the design and grandeur of Lahore Station, aiming to elevate the station’s overall appearance. Abbasi concluded by noting that the current administration’s prudent measures have significantly reduced operational expenses, ensuring the financial sustainability of Pakistan Railways.
