Islamabad(June 06, 2018): Heavy rain in Islamabad and Rawalpindi exposed the flaws of construction in the newly-inaugurated New Islamabad Airport
Roof of the passenger lounge started to leak due to rain and water accumulated on the floor forcing the passengers to find some dry places to save their luggage from the water.

It may be recalled that the Prime Minister, Shahid Khan Abbasi had inaugurated Newly constructed Islamabad Airport on May 01.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister was accompanied by the Governors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Adviser Civil Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan and Mayor Islamabad Sheikh Ansar Aziz.

Earlier on April 7, the first mock flight of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) had landed at the New Islamabad International Airport. PK-9001 had departed from Benazir International Airport at 1:00 pm and landed at the new airport around 1:30 pm.The New Islamabad International Airport is going to be the country’s biggest international airport for its frequency of landing and the number of passenger-handling services.
The airport has a modular design which enables it to handle nine million passengers and 50,000 metric tons of cargo initially.The new airport is located 30 km away from the central Islamabad, for which the construction work started in April 2007.
