Registrar IHC raises objections on PTI’s ECP jurisdiction petition

Islamabad (June 1, 2017): Registrar Islamabad High Court on Thursday raised objections on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) petition challenging the jurisdiction of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hear the foreign funding case.

The PTI has moved to IHC challenging the jurisdiction of ECP to hear the case of foreign funding against the party, which is pending before the Commission.

The Registrar Office of the high court has raised objections on the petition, saying that the petition is incomplete as necessary documents have not been filed along with the petition.

Justice Amir Farooq of IHC will hear the petition along with the Registrar Office’s objections today.

It is to be mentioned here that the PTI has challenged the ECP’s May 8 ruling declaring that the Commission has jurisdiction to hear the foreign funding case against PTI.

The PTI in its petition, filed by senior lawyer Anwar Mansoor Khan, has submitted that the ECP had no jurisdiction to take action on complaint filed by a citizen against a party.

The ECP and Akbar S. Baber, who has filed the application seeking audit of PTI’s party funds, has been named as respondents in PTI’s petition.
