WEB DESK: Senator Prof. Sajid Mir, head of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith and a former senator, passed away at the age of 87 in Lahore.
After being unwell for several months, including undergoing spinal surgery and a heart bypass operation that left him bedridden, Prof Mir breathed his last at a local hospital in the early hours of the morning.
He was born in Sialkot in 1938, Prof. Mir was a respected academic and religious scholar, holding Master’s degrees in English Literature and Islamic Studies from the University of the Punjab.
After teaching in Nigeria, he returned to Pakistan in 1985 and became active in religious and political life. He was first elected to the Senate in 1994 on a PML-N ticket and served multiple terms.
