Sarfraz ahmed announces retirement, bids farewell to Pakistan cricket

LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, closing a chapter on a career marked by leadership and memorable achievements.

Reflecting on his journey, Sarfraz called representing Pakistan “the highest honour of my life,” and cited standout moments such as winning the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2006 and the ICC Champions Trophy as highlights of his career.

He expressed deep gratitude to his teammates, coaches, family, and supporters. “Captaining Pakistan across all three formats was a dream fulfilled,” he said. “I always aimed to play fearless cricket and build a cohesive, united team.”

Sarfraz also expressed pride in seeing the next generation of stars, including Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Hassan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shadab Khan, flourish at the international level. He also thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board for its consistent support and confidence in him throughout his tenure.

“Pakistan cricket will always remain close to my heart, and I will continue contributing to the sport in every way I can,” he added.
