Rawalpindi: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) has telephoned Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Syed Asim Munir for expressing condolence on his mother death.
Saudi Crown Prince MBS prayed that may Allah Almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
The Army Chief felicitated to the MBS for expressing condolence with him over the death of his mother.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a statement on Tuesday, announcing the passing of General Asim Munir’s mother “on the 23rd of Ramazan (March 24)”, and offering prayers for her highest ranks in Heaven.
The funeral prayers, held at the Race Course Ground in Rawalpindi, were attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, former army chiefs Gen (retired) Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Gen (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa, former DG ISI Lt Gen (R) Nadeem Anjum, former DG ISPR Lt Gen (retired) Asif Ghafoor, federal ministers, chief ministers, along with other senior military and civil officials in attendance.
The army chief personally led the funeral prayers for his mother, and expressed gratitude to all those who attended.
Tight security arrangements were made on the occasion. Later, his mother was laid to rest in the Army Graveyard.
A large number of senior political and military figures, as well as the general public, also participated in the funeral.
