Islamabad(June 28, 2018): The Apex Court has convicted Daniyal Aziz in the contempt proceedings on Thursday and sentenced him till the rising of Court.
According to the verdict, Daniyal Aziz has been disqualified to fight general polls of 2018.

As the three-member bench, headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed, convened to announce the verdict, Justice Mushir Alam, who was part of the original bench, was given the verdict for reading out.
In its judgment, the court ruled that Aziz had attempted to malign the court in his speech and spread hatred in light of Section 2 (b) of Article 204 of the Constitution.
The court also ruled that it deliberately showed leniency and did not send Aziz to jail for six months.
Justice Alam, however, decided to wait for Aziz before announcing the verdict as the former minister had not arrived in court.
As Aziz later reached the top court, the court ruled that he committed contempt.
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel, the original head and member of the bench, are not in Islamabad to take part in the hearing.
Strict security measures are in place in and around the top court of the country in light of the verdict.
At the last hearing of the case on May 3, when the decision was reserved, prosecutor Rana Waqar had argued that Aziz’s remarks were an attack on the system of justice.
Waqar had informed the bench that Aziz had termed ‘scripted’ Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders’ Imran Khan’s acquittal and Jahangir Tareen’s disqualification by the apex court and stated that the monitoring judge of the Supreme Court orchestrated the corruption references against Nawaz and his family.
Aziz had also produced witnesses in his defence during the trial and was represented by senior lawyer Ali Raza.
“If the court’s authority is eroded that what will be left,” Justice Sheikh, had wondered.
The PML-N’s stalwart was served with contempt notice on Feb-2 over his controversial speeches against judiciary during various TV talk shows.
On February 23, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Leader Daniyal Aziz appeared before the Supreme Court of Pakistan bench hearing contempt notice case against him.

Early on April 24, three-member bench heard the case in which Daniyal Aziz took a stance that he worked for the freedom of judiciary throughout his life and denied the contempt allegations against him.

The defence lawyer, during the hearing, presented a private TV channel’s video in front of the witness in the court. He asked the witness that “is the private news channel’s footage edited? Can you tell the date, place and time of the footage?”
The witness said that the footage was made on December 19 in Punjab House. Daniyal’s counsel questioned whether the video was captured during a private event.
“Can you tell if Daniyal or other person requested for coverage of the event?” To this, the witness replied in negative.
The PML-N leader has been issued a party ticket to contest the upcoming general election from NA-77, Narowal-I.
