SC Orders To Freeze Rao Anwar Accounts, Issues Contempt Notice

Islamabad (February 16, 2018): The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday issued contempt of court notice to fugitive SSP Malir Rao Anwar and ordered to freeze his accounts over his failure to appear before the court despite protective bail given by the court.

The court proceedings on Friday resumed after a brief break taken by the court to give some time to the fugitive SSP to appear before the court if he is on his way.

However, when the proceedings resumed, it was informed that the SSP Malir has not arrived. The court issued contempt of court show cause notice to the police officer for not complying with the court orders.

The CJP told IG Sindh that they had given three day deadline to the Punjab police for the arrest of culprit in Zainab murder case which was accomplished on time.

He, however, said that although there had been efforts from the Sindh police in this case but it is not bearing fruits.

The IG Sindh informed the court that he was approached by Rao Anwar a day before through a WhatsApp call and and assured to appear before the court on Friday.

“It is true that the court could only assist and arresting the culprit is our responsibility,” said the IGP Sindh.

He said that they had also formed a new team to probe into the matter in order to keep the affairs transparent.The chief Justice of Pakistan directed MI, FIA, ISI to help police in tracing Rao Anwar and provide security to the witnesses in the case. He also directed to submit report in this regard in 15 days and postpone the hearing for two weeks.

Earlier on Friday, fugitive Karachi Police SSP Rao Anwar did not appear before the court despite a chance given by the Supreme Court of Pakistan to  him to appear in the court.

On Friday, the CJP headed two member bench resumed the proceedings of the suo moto case in Naqeeb Ullah murder case.

It is pertinent to mention here that the CJP had given deadline to the fugitive Karachi Police SSP Rao Anwar to appear before the court on Friday after he requested the court to grant him protective bail and form a new JIT into the issue as he had no confidence in the old JIT team led by SSP CTD Rana Sanaullah.When the court proceedings on Friday began, the chief justice asked if Rao Anwar had come to the court. The IGP Sindh AD Khwaja responded that the Rao Anwar had not appeared before the court.

On this, the chief justice said that Rao Anwar had wasted a precious opportunity as we had also granted him a protective bail. He, however, said that they would wait for the police officer as he could come late.

The CJP further remarked that it was the responsibility of the police to arrest the fugitive SSP Malir. “We had also asked the other agencies to help police in finding the accused in this case,” he said.
