ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry has termed the decision of Supreme Court of upholding the verdict against Sharifs in Avenfield Reference case as ‘absolutely correct on legal grounds’.
The Information Minister stated that in order to appeal for cancellation of bail, extraordinary arguments must be presented which were not done by the Accountability Watchdogs.
He continued, “Although, this decision of Supreme does not bring any change in the Political environment.”
Talking over the future of Nawaz Sharif in regards to politics, Fawad said that Former Prime Minister’s time is over in country’s political scenario.
Earlier today, Supreme Court of Pakistan dismissed the National Accountability Bureau’s appeal and upheld the decision of Islamabad High Court (IHC) of suspension of prison sentences to Axed Premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and his son-in-law Captain (Retd.) Safdar Awan in the Avenfield Reference.
A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel and Justice Mushir Alam heard the appeal.
Nawaz Sharif’s counsel Khawaja Haris and Maryam’s counsel Amjad Pervez appeared before the court.
The Supreme Court, in its ruling, declared that the Accountability Watchdogs failed to provide the ground for cancellation of bail. Thus, their appeal got rejected.
