Section 144 enforced in upper, lower South Waziristan over security threats

S.WAZIRISTAN: Authorities on Thursday imposed Section 144 in parts of Upper and Lower South Waziristan due to escalating security concerns, restricting public movement and commercial activities during daytime hours.

In Upper South Waziristan District, Deputy Commissioner Asmatullah Wazir announced that the restrictions would remain in place from 6am to 6pm in the tehsils of Sarvekai and Sararogha. During this period, public movement is suspended and markets, shops, and business centres will stay closed.

Major routes placed under restrictions include Makin, Sararogha, Kot Kai, Spinkai Raghzai up to Nazar Khel, as well as the road connecting Dargai Bridge with Madi Jan, Sheen Warsak, Moley Khan Sarai, and Chagmalai.

Residents have been instructed to stop their vehicles at least 50 metres before security checkpoints and comply with directions from security personnel, including disembarking if required. Officials warned that violations would invite strict legal consequences.

Similarly, in Lower South Waziristan District, Deputy Commissioner Musarat Zaman imposed parallel measures in several localities of Wana. The curfew, effective from 6am to 6pm, prohibits all non-essential travel.

Areas under restriction include Wana, Tiarza Gate, Karb Kot, Tanai, Azizabad Chowk, and the route leading toward Dargai Bridge. Emergency travel will only be allowed with prior clearance from security authorities and proper identification verification.

Officials have urged citizens to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies and avoid unnecessary movement. All commercial activities will remain suspended during enforcement hours.

The precautionary steps follow a recent uptick in militant activity across the South Waziristan region, prompting authorities to tighten security measures to ensure public safety and maintain order.
