Srinagar (October 10, 2018) Complete shutter down strike was observed across India Occupied Kashmir during the so-called second phase of Municipal and panchayat Elections.
Despite heavy military deployment and curfew thousands of young kashmiris protested against India, various persons were injured and arrested during the protest.
According to Kashmir media service, businessmen suspended their activities and thousands of people staged a protest on the request of Hurriyat Conference Chaiman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Syed Ali Gillani, Yaseen Malik and others.
Protesters said that the election was an Indian drama, they demanded to give them rights to self-esteem.
On the other hand, all the polling booths were also witnessed empty during the second phase of Municipal election, Kashmiris did not exercise their electoral rights except the few.
During the elections, the security was red alert across the valley, 5000 occupied army deployed with patrolling of 400 battalions of paramilitary forces.
Earlier on October 08, Kashmiris observed a complete shutdown against municipal and panchayat election drama in Occupied Kashmir.
Call for shutdown was given by Joint Resistance Leadership, comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik and supported by other organizations, including High Court Bar Association.
Strict curfew-like restrictions was imposed in the Valley.
According to Indian daily Hindu, forty thousand (40,000) additional security personnel were deployed in Kulgam, Anantnag, Budgam, Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara areas, where the first phase of the sham polls took place. It may be added that these towns are already heavily militarized.
Bullet-proof bunkers were set up on all main roads across the Valley to stop Kashmiris from staging protests.
All senior Hurriyet leadership and activists were detained or placed under house arrest to prevent them from running anti-polls campaign.
In a statement, Hurriyet Forum chief Mirwaiz Omar Farooq said election is a drama. A massive crackdown has been launched on our supporters to thrust the so-called polls on people who have already rejected this military exercise.
Daily Hindu said the mood in three wards in Srinagar Hyderpora, Rawalpora and Zakura was reflected in the fact that no public campaign was carried out by any of the eight candidates, whose details have been kept anonymous by the authorities for security reasons.
Various Sikh bodies including Sikh Intellectuals Circle, International Sikh Federation and Sikh Students Federation have already announced boycott of the elections.
