WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that Iran has conveyed it is on the brink of collapse and has asked the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz while it works through its leadership crisis.
It remains unclear from Trump’s social media update how Iran communicated this message, and there has been no official comment from Iran at this time.
“In a message to us, Iran has claimed they are in a ‘State of Collapse’ and has requested us to ‘Open the Hormuz Strait’ as soon as possible, while they attempt to resolve their leadership issues (which I believe they will manage!),” Trump posted on social media.
The White House has not responded to requests for comment regarding the statement made on Truth Social.
According to a U.S. official speaking to Reuters, Trump is dissatisfied with Iran’s latest proposal to resolve the ongoing two-month conflict. This development has diminished hopes for a quick resolution, which has already impacted global energy markets, driven inflation, and resulted in significant loss of life.
