QUETTA: Two female students have died after gunmen attacked a government girls’ degree college in Nushki district, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said Wednesday. He blamed the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) for the assault.
Speaking at a news conference in Quetta, Bugti condemned the targeting of students and accused the attackers of trying to deny children an education. He said three students were injured in the shooting; two later died in hospital.
Initial reports said four masked, armed men arrived on two motorcycles, damaged two security cameras and vandalised the principal’s office. They reportedly threatened students before opening fire.
Bugti promised that those responsible would be pursued and brought to justice. He said the provincial government would keep schools, colleges and universities open despite security threats, and announced a sports gala in memory of the students who were killed.
The chief minister said the government would continue working to expand education and employment opportunities, adding that communities should not be forced to abandon their daily lives. He said negotiations remained possible for those prepared to engage within the Constitution and the law, but warned that attacks on students and other civilians would not be tolerated.
