ISLAMABAD: The federal government has reduced customs duty on petrol by Rs5.71 per litre, bringing it down from Rs26.27 to Rs20.56 with effect from October 28, 2026.
According to the latest pricing document issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the reduction has helped lower petrol’s ex-depot price despite an increase in its international benchmark cost.
Petrol’s ex-depot price has declined by Rs3.19 per litre, dropping from Rs379.25 to Rs376.06 per litre under the revised pricing formula.
The document shows that petrol’s cost at Karachi port increased from Rs241.40 to Rs244.73 per litre. However, the reduction in customs duty, along with the removal of the exchange rate adjustment of Rs0.82 per litre, contributed to the decrease in the ex-depot price.
The revised petrol price includes a petroleum levy of Rs80 per litre and a climate support levy of Rs5 per litre, while sales tax remains zero-rated.
Meanwhile, high-speed diesel (HSD) has recorded an increase of Rs2.25 per litre, with its ex-depot price rising from Rs395.82 to Rs398.07.
The revised diesel pricing structure retains the petroleum levy at Rs80 per litre and the climate support levy at Rs5 per litre, with no sales tax imposed.
The latest adjustment reflects changes in international petroleum prices, import costs and other components of the domestic fuel pricing mechanism.
While the reduction in petrol’s ex-depot price provides some relief to petrol users, the increase in diesel prices could raise transportation and freight expenses, potentially adding to costs for businesses and consumers.
The revised rates came into effect on October 28, 2026, according to the OGRA notification.
