US Ends $10 Million Reward for Sirajuddin Haqqani’s Arrest, Taliban Claims

WEB DESK: The Afghan Ministry of Interior has asserted that the United States has terminated the $10 million reward for the capture of Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Afghan Interior Minister and a key figure in the Haqqani Network.

This claim comes amid a recent visit by a US delegation to Kabul. The delegation, which included US Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs Adam Boehler and former Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, held talks with senior Taliban officials. Following the discussions, the Taliban released American citizen George Gleizman.

A spokesperson from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior has stated that the US has ended the reward for Sirajuddin Haqqani’s arrest. However, the US Department of State has not yet commented on these claims.

Notably, the $10 million reward for Haqqani’s capture remains listed on the FBI’s website, signaling that the US has not officially retracted the reward offer.

Additionally, Afghan media reports suggest that the US has also removed the rewards for other prominent Haqqani Network leaders, including Abdul Aziz Haqqani and Yahya Haqqani, for whom $5 million had been offered for information leading to their capture.

It is crucial to note that Sirajuddin Haqqani is listed as a global terrorist by the United Nations, and the US initially offered a $5 million reward for information leading to his arrest, which was later increased to $10 million.
