Warring tribes reach peace agreement after long negotiations over restive Kurram issue

Kohat: After days-long negotiations, the two fighting tribes in Kurram have signed a peace agreement.

Jirga member Malik Sawab Khan apprised that , the agreement containing 14 points aimed at establishing peace in the area.

The violence plagued the restive territory for several weeks now.

A grand peace jirga was convened at Kohat Fort to mediate talks between the warring tribes of the violence-hit district.

The peace talks, held under the supervision of GOC 9 Division Major General Zulfiqar Bhatti.

The aim of the talks was to establish lasting peace between the warring tribes whose clashes have claimed over 130 lives since November.

45 persons from each sides signed the agreement while planning is underway for opening of roads and establishing peace.

Under the agreement It has been decided there will be a complete ceasefire while no body can posses arms without licence in their homes.

It is also decided that both the warring tribes will remove bunkers while the provincial government will redress the losses.
