100 children killed or injured daily in Gaza due to Israeli strikes, reports UN

WEB DESK: At least 100 Palestinian children have been killed or injured by the Israeli military each day in Gaza since the Zionist regime broke the ceasefire on March 18, according to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

Philippe Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, recently expressed grave concern on X (formerly Twitter) about the impact of ongoing conflict in Gaza on Palestinian children. He described the situation as depriving these children of their childhood and likened Gaza to a “no land” for young people.

“It’s heartbreaking,” Lazzarini stated. “Since the resumption of strikes, reports indicate that at least 100 children are either killed or injured each day.” He referenced UNICEF data and emphasized, “There is no justification for the killing of children.

In a poignant statement, he expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of “young lives” cut short by a conflict not initiated by the children themselves. He urged for renewed efforts to safeguard Gaza’s youngest civilians by reinstating a ceasefire.

The war, which commenced on October 7, 2023, has claimed the lives of 15,000 children in the Gaza Strip, according to reports. “The continuation of this conflict is robbing children of their innocence and youth. Gaza has become a place devoid of safety for children—a blemish on our collective humanity,” he lamented.

UNICEF has reported that since Israel resumed its military operations in Gaza nearly three weeks ago, at least 322 Palestinian children have lost their lives and 609 have sustained injuries. The agency noted that approximately one million children in Gaza are enduring the relentless bombardment and worsening humanitarian crisis exacerbated by Israel’s ongoing blockade restricting aid into the besieged territory.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that the death toll has risen to at least 1,249 people since large-scale military strikes resumed following the breakdown of the ceasefire on March 18. The latest figures indicate that 3,022 individuals have been injured during this renewed conflict. In the last 24 hours alone, 86 people were killed and 287 others were wounded.

Overall, the Health Ministry reports that since the war began on October 7, 2023, there have been around 50,609 deaths and 115,063 injuries recorded in Gaza. The ongoing violence continues to have a devastating impact on the region’s most vulnerable population, particularly its children.
