Islamabad: The Jamat-e-Islami (JI) on Tuesday today strongly criticized on the petition of the K-Electric for increasing electricity prices under fuel adjustment charges for the month of May and June during the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) hearing and rejected it.
The JI representative during the course of hearing lambasting on the K-electric said that the soul distributor of electricity in Karachi, K-Electric is generating electricity power more expensive than the International Power Producers (IPPs).
The NEPRA conjoining with the K-Electric has become party in the matter, the JI representative alleged.
K-Electric license for generating electricity should be confiscated and the Karachi be provided electricity through National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC), the JI representative demanded the NEPRA.
On the other hand the K-electric adopted the view that Regassified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) contribution increased in the month of May and June while our RLNG remained expensive from the range of Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA).
The K-Electric has sought an increase of Rs 2.53 per litre in electricity price for month of May while it also sought an uptick of Rs 2.92 for electricity price for the month of June.
If the K-Electric demand met it will burden people of Pakistan a whopping sum of Rs 10 billion.
Moreover a representative of the Korangi Association of trade and Industry (KATI)said that Karachi saw scorching heat in the month of May and June and there was reign of long outages of electricity in the city.
The KATI representative said that increasing the electricity price for the two months will not be a wise decision.
The representative said that the hefty electricity bills will compel people to come on roads.
The JI representative also lamented on the NEPRA saying it is a responsibility of the NEPRA to provide protection to the consumers.
The JI representative alleged that it is not the duty of the NEPRA to fill its pockets for giving the hefty tariffs.
If the NEPRA can’t do it then it should change its status from authority to advisory , the JI representative added.
The JI representative said that the NEPRA gave verdict against the load shedding but the K-Electric didn’t admit it.
The Representative also alleged that the people sitting in the government and the NEPRA has made an alliance.
The JI representative informed that as many as 50 illegal PMTs were working in Surjani Town in Karachi and the NEPRA knew it but the NEPRA took no action on it.
The JI representative also questioned what happened to the relief of Rs 54 billion?
The Chairman NEPRA Waseem Mukhtar said that the authority of the Chairman in NEPRA works joined with all the members.

He said that the Chairman NEPRA along with members together take decisions.
The NEPRA completed the hearing while it will issue its verdict on the K-Electric petition after reviewing facts and figure.
