MANSEHRA: Three people killed as a chairlift plunged into the indus River near Summer Nullah area in Upper Kohistan district on Friday.
The deceased were crossing the river while on way to Tangir area of Gilgit-Baltistan from Shitial, when the string holding the chairlift broke into two pieces, hurling them into the fast flowing river.
“The divers were busy in fishing out the drowned persons. But their chances of survival are dim as the river is in full swing due to melting of snow in the catchment areas,” Mohammad Asif, the deputy commissioner of Upper Kohistan, told reporters. “All dead are from Tangir area,”
According to the locals, chairlift across the Indus is the only means of transporting people between Kohistan and Tangir
