NASA is closely monitoring a large asteroid, named 2024 ON, which will pass near Earth on September 15, 2024.
This asteroid is about 720 feet wide, roughly the size of two football fields or two cricket pitches, and is traveling at a speed of 25,000 mph.
Despite its large size, the asteroid will pass by at a safe distance of approximately 620,000 miles from Earth, which is more than twice the distance between the Earth and the Moon.
NASA has assured that there is no risk of the asteroid colliding with Earth. However, this event offers a rare opportunity for astronomers to observe the asteroid and gather valuable data about its composition and movement.
Skywatchers in the northern hemisphere may also get a chance to see it using telescopes or binoculars.
NASA continues to keep a close watch on such near-Earth objects through its asteroid tracking programs to assess any potential future risks.
