Asad Qaiser Issues Warning of Nationwide Protests Over Gandapur’s Alleged Disappearance

PESHAWAR: Asad Qaiser, former Speaker of the National Assembly and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has threatened to initiate nationwide protests if Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is not released within 24 hours.

Speaking alongside fellow members of the KP Assembly, Qaiser expressed his outrage over Gandapur’s reported detention, labeling it an unprecedented event in global history.

Qaiser condemned the vandalism that occurred at the KP House in Islamabad and called for the immediate release of Gandapur, as well as the liberation of over 1,000 PTI workers currently detained by federal authorities. He criticized the government’s alleged attempts to stifle opposition voices, warning that PTI would boycott meetings in the National Assembly, Senate, and standing committees if controversial constitutional amendments were proposed.

Highlighting a perceived double standard, Qaiser questioned why Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has not faced similar scrutiny or treatment. He emphasized the disparity between Gandapur’s situation and that of other political figures.

It is reported that Gandapur went missing while traveling to join a protest in Islamabad. While PTI leaders allege that he has been detained, the government denies these claims, stating that he is not in official custody.
