Violent demonstrations break out at Lahore’s Punjab Group of Colleges in response to a girl’s rape.

Violent Protests Erupt at Lahore’s Punjab Group of Colleges Following Rape Incident

Lahore witnessed chaotic scenes as violent protests erupted at the Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC) after allegations surfaced regarding the rape of a first-year student by a security guard and a van driver. The incident, which allegedly took place in the college basement, has sparked outrage among students and the broader community.

On Monday morning, students from PGC’s Campus 10 gathered in large numbers to express their anger and demand justice for the victim. The protest quickly spread to Campus 16, near Hafeez Centre, as more students joined the demonstration, leading to confrontations with police.

Reports indicate that clashes broke out between the protesters and law enforcement at PGC locations on Canal Road and Ferozpur Road. At least five students and four policemen sustained injuries during the violent altercations. Eyewitness accounts described police employing baton charges to disperse the crowd, but students managed to push back and maintain their presence on campus.

As tensions escalated, additional police units, including water cannons and prison vans, were deployed to control the situation. Students expressed frustration not only over the assault but also over what they perceived as attempts by college administration and authorities to downplay the incident. Many accused the administration of prioritizing the institution’s reputation over the safety and well-being of its students.

The alleged victim remains in the intensive care unit (ICU) as her condition is monitored. The accused security guard has been arrested, but the van driver is still at large. The police have stated that they are conducting an inquiry into the allegations, yet students have voiced skepticism regarding the investigation’s transparency, fearing a potential cover-up.

This shocking incident has ignited widespread anger, with students holding banners demanding justice and accountability. The protests have drawn support from peers at various colleges and universities, amplifying calls for safety and reform within educational institutions.

As the situation continues to unfold, students remain determined to fight for justice, vowing to keep the pressure on the administration and authorities until they feel their voices are heard and their demands for safety are met.
