Magnitude 5.6 earthquake strikes Philippines

WEB DESK: A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck off the southern coast of the Philippines on Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of any damage or casualties from the event.

The earthquake occurred near the island of Mindanao at a depth of 30 kilometers (approximately 18.6 miles). The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology identified the epicenter as being located about 43 kilometers southwest of Maitum, a town situated in a mountainous and sparsely populated region.
