BEIJING: Deputy Prime Minister/ Foreign Minister/ Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), to discuss regional stability and bilateral relations.
The meeting focused on recent regional developments following the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, with both sides emphasizing the importance of adhering to the principles of the UN Charter and international law to ensure peace and stability in South Asia.
Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful neighbourhood and its readiness to defend its national interests.
A critical aspect of the discussion was the recent unilateral move by India to put the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) in abeyance. The Foreign Minister highlighted that such actions are illegal and urged the international community to recognize the importance of resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions for the sake of regional peace.
Both leaders also celebrated the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China, marking the upcoming 74th anniversary of diplomatic relations on May 21, 2025. They agreed to foster this special relationship further and to pass its values to future generations.
Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister appreciated China’s role in facilitating exchanges between the Communist Party of China and Pakistani political parties, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation and shared commitment to regional stability.
