RIYADH: In Saudi Arabia, 17 individuals have been sentenced to death over the past three days, bringing the total number of executions this year to 239. According to an international news agency, today two Saudi nationals were sentenced to death for terrorism-related crimes, while during Saturday and Sunday, 15 people were executed.
Most of those executed on Saturday and Sunday were foreigners convicted of drug trafficking. The Saudi Press Agency reported that out of those sentenced over the weekend, 13 individuals were convicted of smuggling hashish, and one for smuggling cocaine.
If all the sentences handed down this year, 161 were related to drug offences, and among those executed, 136 are foreign nationals.
