WEB DESK: The international arbitration court had previously stated that India is obligated to release water from the western rivers to Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty.
However, India has rejected the court’s ruling. The Indian government has asserted that the arbitration court does not have the authority to decide on matters related to the Indus Waters Treaty.
According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, India has never recognized the jurisdiction of the international arbitration court on this issue.
