PESHAWAR: Dr. Gul Lalah, a lecturer at Poonch University, was swept away along with her vehicle near Tarar Campus in Rawalakot.
According to authorities, his car became immobilized as floodwaters surged close to the Tarar Campus of Poonch University. The strong current then carried both the vehicle and the driver downstream.
Rescue teams, in collaboration with local officials, have initiated a large-scale search operation to locate the missing lecturer, who hails from Khadak, a suburb of Rawalakot.
However, rescuers face mounting challenges due to the intensity of the currents and the rising water levels, which are hampering recovery efforts.
Meanwhile, in Athmuqam, the capital of Neelum Valley, a separate tragic incident occurred when a vehicle plunged into the Neelum River, resulting in the deaths of at least five occupants.
Police reports indicate that the accident was caused by treacherous road conditions and poor visibility amid heavy rainfall.
