Karachi: A fire erupted at a fireworks warehouse on MA Jinnah Road in Karachi Thursday, shortly after loud explosions were heard in the area wherein 24 people sustained injuries, officials and eyewitnesses said.
According to South SSP Muneer Zaman, most of the injured sustained glass-related injuries. Rescue teams rushed them to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) said five fire tenders and a snorkel were dispatched to the site, where efforts to extinguish the blaze were underway.
Authorities said the cause of the fire was not immediately known, while police and rescue officials cordoned off the area to prevent further casualties.
Eyewitnesses reported that the blasts preceded the blaze, sending plumes of smoke billowing across the city’s skyline.
Rescue officials confirmed that there were reports of both human and financial losses, though the exact extent of the damage was not immediately clear.
Two fire brigade vehicles and a bowser were deployed to the site as firefighters worked to contain the flames.
Authorities cordoned off the area and said further details would be shared once the situation was brought under control.
