New shipment of 100 electric buses dispatched to Pakistan from China

LAHORE: The buses are currently en route from Shanghai Sea Port and are expected to arrive in Punjab within the upcoming weeks. Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, announced that by December, electric buses will be available in every district of the province.

She emphasized the affordability of the new transportation system, mentioning that the fare for these advanced electric buses will be only Rs. 20. Maryam Nawaz highlighted that this initiative will offer residents a comfortable, modern, and eco-friendly mode of travel, signifying a significant step toward sustainable urban mobility in Punjab.

Earlier in February, Lahore received an initial batch of 11 electric buses from China. As part of an initial pilot phase, 27 buses were introduced in total. The electric bus service in Lahore was officially inaugurated by Maryam Nawaz on February 19. The charging infrastructure for the buses is situated in Lahore’s Green Town area. Each vehicle can carry up to 60 passengers, providing a greener and more efficient transportation alternative for city commuters.

The Punjab Transport Department received all the buses from the transport company responsible for the project. Moreover, tenders have been called for electric bus services in Faisalabad and Bahawalpur, indicating plans for further expansion of environmentally friendly transit solutions across Punjab.
