Hollywood legend Robert Redford passes away at 89

WEB DESK: Hollywood icon and activist Robert Redford died peacefully at his Utah home on Tuesday morning at the age of 89. Cindi Berger, representing the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK, confirmed the news.

While details surrounding his passing remain private, the statement suggests he died in his sleep. Born in Santa Monica, California, in 1936, Redford’s career spanned over sixty years, leaving a lasting mark on both film and activism.

Redford’s journey in acting began with his studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. His debut on stage was in the Broadway production Tall Story in 1959, where he portrayed a basketball player. Over the years, he became known for his charming presence and striking looks, starring in acclaimed films such as Inside Daisy Clover, This Property Is Condemned, The Chase, The Great Gatsby, and The Way We Were.

Beyond his on-screen success, Redford was a passionate supporter of progressive causes, which influenced his choice of roles. Films like The Candidate and All the President’s Men showcased his commitment to politically charged storytelling and helped shape American cinema during his era.He was also the visionary behind the Sundance Film Festival, an influential platform dedicated to independent cinema and emerging filmmakers often overlooked by mainstream studios.

Redford’s final acting appearance was a cameo in the 2022 AMC series Dark Winds. Prior to that, he appeared in Avengers: Endgame, reprising his role as Secretary Alexander Pierce.

Throughout his illustrious career, Redford earned numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement.
