QUETTA: A devastating attack in Quetta resulted in the loss of ten lives, with six terrorists belonging to the group Fitna al-Hindustan neutralized by security forces, officials confirmed. The attack involved a suicide bombing and subsequent gunfire near the Frontier Corps (FC) Headquarters on Zarghoon Road in Model Town.
According to police reports, the explosion was caused by an explosive-laden vehicle that took a turn from Model Town heading toward Hali Road, detonating close to the FC base. The blast inflicted severe damage, shattering windows across nearby neighborhoods, and was heard from distant parts of the city.
Emergency responders swiftly reached the scene, and hospitals in Quetta were put on high alert. At least 32 individuals, including two FC personnel, were injured, some critically, and were transported for treatment. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene with gunfire ringing out shortly after the explosion, heightening panic among residents.
Security forces responded rapidly, cordoning off the area and deploying bomb disposal squads to examine the site. An investigation has been launched to determine the full scope of the attack, while additional security personnel have been stationed throughout the region to prevent further incidents.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack, labeling it an act of terrorism. He praised the swift response of security forces, stating, “Our brave security personnel responded decisively, eliminating the terrorists before they could cause further harm. Their sacrifices will not be forgotten. We are committed to restoring peace and stability to Balochistan.”
President Asif Ali Zardari also denounced the assault, attributing it to “India-backed terrorists” operating on the agenda of destabilizing Pakistan. In a statement, he accused extremists linked to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), often referred to as Fitna-al-Khawarij by authorities, of orchestrating the attack. He emphasized that external forces and internal extremists cannot undermine Pakistan’s security and praised the response of security agencies, praying for the recovery of the injured.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi lauded the courage and professionalism of the Frontier Corps personnel who confronted the attackers. “Our FC soldiers displayed remarkable bravery, confronting and eliminating six terrorists, including a suicide bomber,” he remarked. Naqvi expressed pride in the steadfastness of the paramilitary force and extended prayers for the quick recovery of injured soldiers. He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism in all its forms, asserting that such heinous acts would only strengthen the nation’s resolve.
