ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has formally dismissed the contempt of court case against former Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Chief Judge Rana Shamim, ruling that the matter is now infructuous.
Rana Shamim, the former GB chief judge, on Saturday disavowed his previous affidavit that accused ex-Chief Justice Saqib Nisar of interfering in judicial processes to delay the release of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, asserting that his earlier claims were false.
In a new affidavit filed before the IHC, Rana Shamim disowned his prior statements, retracting all allegations made against the former Chief Justice and the Islamabad High Court judges. He also issued a public apology to the court, seeking unconditional forgiveness.
Earlier, on September 12, Rana Shamim had partially retracted from his affidavit, originally executed on November 10 of the previous year. He clarified that no sitting judge of the IHC was involved in the alleged misconduct and apologized unconditionally to the court. Despite this, he maintained his accusations against former CJP Nisar.
Rana Shamim also challenged the January 20 decision of a single IHC bench that indicted him in a contempt case, arguing that the court only indicted him while shielding others who had facilitated the affidavit’s concealment. He requested the court to annul his indictment and dismiss the case altogether.
