ISLAMABAD:  Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced his resignation.

In a statement, Ali Amin Gandapur stated that he is stepping down from his position on the orders of the founder of PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf). He expressed his full support and backing for Sohel Afridi, who is expected to succeed him.

Gandapur further emphasized that the party will move forward united in efforts to secure the release of the party’s founder and to implement PTI’s policies.

It is important to note that PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja confirmed these developments during a media briefing, stating that a decision has been made to remove Gandapur from his role as Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Raja announced that Sohel Afridi has been nominated as the new Chief Minister for the province.

According to Raja, this decision was made by Imran Khan, PTI’s leader, against the backdrop of the ongoing security crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He highlighted the grave situation of terrorism in the region, mentioning recent martyrs in Orakzai and asserting that the provincial government has been advised to distance itself from federal policies.

Raja added that the only way to end terrorism is through negotiations. He expressed confidence that Sohel Afridi would guide and advise the federal government and that the government’s priority is to protect the lives and property of the people.The Secretary General also stated that the founder of PTI has directed Gandapur to resign, believing it would be in his best interest to step down at this time. PTI plans to introduce a new policy and initiate a fresh start.

Raja assured that there would be no difficulties in the transition, with Gandapur resigning and the assembly electing Sohel Afridi as the new Chief Minister.

Sohail Afridi, the designated Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hails from the Khyber district. He was elected as a Member of the Provincial Assembly from PK-70 for the first time and previously served as the President of the PTI Student Federation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Currently, he is serving as the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Higher Education, following recent changes in the provincial cabinet.
