Former Sindh assembly speaker Agha Siraj Durrani passes away in Karachi

KARACHI: Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) figure and former Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Agha Siraj Durrani, has passed away at a private hospital in Karachi following a prolonged illness.

Durrani, a longstanding and devoted member of the PPP, was widely recognized for his close association with the late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Over the course of his political career, he held multiple roles, including that of Sindh’s Education Minister, and was elected to the Sindh Assembly several times.

President Asif Ali Zardari expressed profound sorrow over his passing, highlighting Durrani’s steadfast commitment to democratic principles and his significant contributions to public life. In his message, President Zardari offered condolences to the family and prayed for Durrani’s eternal peace.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also mourned the loss, praising Durrani as a dedicated and principled leader who played a crucial role in fortifying the democratic process within the Sindh Assembly. He remembered Durrani as a true pillar of the party and expressed prayers for his family’s strength and the late leader’s elevated place in the hereafter.
