Inquiry finds no evidence of suicide in Islamabad SP Adeel Akbar’s death

ISLAMABAD: The investigation into the death of Islamabad Police Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Adeel Akbar has reached its conclusion, with the inquiry panel ruling out the possibility that the officer took his own life, according to official sources.

The four-member inquiry team has finalized its report and is scheduled to submit it to Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ali Nasir Rizvi, today. Following this, the findings will be shared with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, along with recommendations for any necessary follow-up actions, sources confirmed.

After several days of detailed investigation, the committee did not find any evidence to support the initial assumption that SP Adeel Akbar had committed suicide. “The evidence does not support the claim of self-inflicted death,” a source familiar with the report stated. The inquiry established that SP Adeel Akbar died as a result of a gunshot wound to the face, a detail corroborated by the post-mortem examination report received by investigators.

The panel also recorded testimonies from individuals close to the officer, including his wireless operator, driver, and other staff members who were present or involved on the day of the incident. Additionally, the psychologist who was treating SP Adeel Akbar was questioned as part of the investigation.

It was revealed that SP Adeel had consulted his doctor twice in the days leading up to his death. The inquiry examined his mental health condition, but based on the available evidence and testimonies, the panel found no signs indicating suicidal intent.
