ISLAMABAD: Ex-National Assembly Speaker and PTI leader Asad Qaiser has hit out at the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), accusing it of becoming part of a “political drama” over the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which he claims has already been decided.
As per detail, Speaking at a press conference alongside members of the Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aain-e-Pakistan, Qaiser said the opposition had called an emergency meeting today as the government had “opened the Pandora’s box” of the 27th Amendment.
Referring to Bilawal Bhutto’s recent tweet, he said it was “deeply concerning” and added that PPP was “playing along in this show.” He alleged that the amendment’s outcome was predetermined and was being presented merely to “fool the people.”
Criticizing the PPP’s political shift, Qaiser remarked, “There was once a PPP of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who laid the foundation of the Constitution, and a PPP of Benazir Bhutto, who gave her life for democracy. But today’s PPP seems bent on burying democracy.”
Taking a jab at Nawaz Sharif, he said, “Where is your slogan ‘vote ko izzat do’ now? Power gained by kneeling down is worth nothing.”Qaiser further said that PTI had shared its recommendations with the party founder and would issue a press release if a meeting takes place. He vowed to raise the issue in Parliament and also take the case to the people to defend the supremacy of democracy and the Constitution.
